good morning! today it's my turn to host tranformation tuesday, the fun weekly feature from papertrey ink. (it's been a lot of lexi for a week, lol!) we all have cards that don't necessarily turn out the way we had envisioned or a project that we designed to be feminine that could be made masculine. or a project we want to recreate for a new age group, as in today's case.
i had so much fun with the garden whimsy pop-up box card for stamp-a-faire that I decided to rework it for a tech lovin' teen or kid. i just know even a teen would be impressed with the pop-up box concept! so this time, instead of a garden of flowers, i filled it with emojis and hashtags from hashtag everything for a #happybirthday! i may have stepped it up at the same time...
i attached all of my pop-up pieces - face emojis, shape emojis, hashtags, etc. - into this box using the clear cardstock technique for adding the bee to the garden box. i like the wiggle and how the mechanism fades into the background. to make it fuller, i also added in one more tab insert for a total of three and i kind of stacked or stair-stepped the pop-up pieces as i added them in.
another upgrade was adding the dotted layer frame to all three of the fold-down flaps instead of just the front one like on the original. although i did make the front stand out with the "feature" birthday emoji and another hashtag sentiment, kind of a continuation of the pop-ups above it. it helps to have a few extra die cuts to play around with for these finishing touches.
i also used the long support layer panel on the inside of the box instead of the outside. with a simple stamped pattern from ombre builders, it works great as an inner backdrop, while still serving as a support, keeping the back panel from folding over. #happy birthday #celebrate #yay #sofun...
#hbd! finally, i also mixed it up on the outside. instead of a pattern along the top and bottom like on the garden card, i went for an all-over random stamped pattern on the lower half and a die cut speech bubble to call attention to the front. thank you to the stamp-a-faire attendee who gave me that idea and to krillsister/carol who's emoji party inspired me to create this new version!
don't forget that i shared a template to print or follow if you want to make your own pop-up boxes without the dies. click here to download it!! --> pop up box card - as you can see, they're kind of addictive, lol!
happy stamping!
