celebrating the past, present and future: 2016

my favorite pieces of confetti set from 2016 would have to be invitation basics. the different elements in the set are perfect for creating clean and simple invitations and birthday cards. who knew a couple of little rectangles could be so versatile and fun?! it hasn’t been around that long yet, but i have already reached for it several times. today, i have cake...

i used the all in one cake from the coordinating dies and stamped the different pieces from the bottom up - cake plate, two rectangle layers, candles and flames. i popped this on top of an off-set polka dot rectangle from superhero framed with a leftover gold luxe adhesive frame cut from one of the stained glass dies. you made all of my wishes come true!

here's a similar card from release week using the individual dies with the bow instead of the cake plate and candles to create a stack of gifts. clean and simple, quick and easy!

and, with a set called basics, of course there are balloons! i showcased a variety of invitation designs during the release including this fill-in balloon idea plus several with printed verbiage. i love personalization and a good rhyme!

i even used the candle as confetti, inspired by a birchbox box that was sitting in my office while i was working with the set. i consider it a personal triumph when i use stamps in ways that i hadn't thought of when i designed them! as usual, check out the pinterest board to see more...

celebrating the past, present and future: 2015

the year 2015 brought another handful of fun pieces of confetti stamp sets, most notably superhero, a follow up to zappy birthday , which had been released in January right before the anniversary celebration. these sets together are the most fun! and who says they’re just for superhero cards? 

with mardi gras gaining speed around here, i decided to pull out purple, green and gold inks to create mardi gras masks instead. the dotty streamer from birthday style along with silver sequins are a perfect nod to beads and doubloons flying through the air. and caution: another year older had just the right the sentiment to sum it all up. warning: it’s party time!

of course superhero pairs perfectly with zappy birthday - it's rare that i pull out one set without the other. this clean and simple birthday card from the original release is the perfect example.

but the images and sentiments can also stand on their own (literally!) to create unique thank you cards for all the superheroes in your life. 

one of my favorite extras included with the superhero release were two life size mask dies (one and two). during the countdown, i created a birthday card around one that can be removed and worn, but they would make great party accessories as well. i'm thinking i might need a new mardi gras mask very soon!! i've created so much with these two sets that it was really hard to pick which projects to add to this post - luckily you can see all of them and more from the design team and others on my pinterest boards for both sets...

celebrating the past, present and future: 2014

with eight pieces of confetti sets released in 2014, it was really hard to choose a single favorite, but give me a hand is definitely up there. i continue to reach for it often to create cards for a variety of occasions! another major stand out this year would have to be participating in stamp-a-faire and creating the 1980s mini kit. So for today’s card, i decided to partner a couple of fun elements from the two.

my teenagers especially love this set because of the different hand signs, so i went with a teen inspired card and put the glasses from the 1980s kit into one of the hands. i love to stick things into the hands - a present, stamped money, real money (!), etc. the speech bubble and sentiment options make this a truly versatile set.

it also pairs well with other sentiments. this is a favorite from the set's original release. the variety of sleeves and jewelry included are fun to customize the hands and play around with.

and how about hands catching snow in this globe ornament? i couldn't resist!

and as silhouettes against a rubber cement resist painted sky for a fun make it monday appearance. as usual, you can see these and more on the pinterest board - so many good ideas by the design team too...

celebrating the past, present and future: 2013

in 2013, once again i had three pieces of confetti sets released - comfort food additions, plus stained glass and cupid’s arrow. I really enjoyed showcasing a variety of coloring techniques with stained glass during the original release, so I thought I’d revisit it today with a little clean and simple watercoloring.

i used zig clean color brush markers for my watercoloring. after embossing the image in black, i painted a wash of water (with a small brush) into a few sections of the image at a time. next i added color with a marker, which i then blended again with a wet paintbrush, adding in more color as needed. i love the look of watercolors for stained glass because you can having darker spots or a concentrated gathering of color around the edges much like stained glass you'd see in person.

one of my very favorite projects from the release was a set of acetate stained glass ornaments. the image was embossed on clear cardstock and then painted in with ink-tinted glossy accents. this came out even closer to the real thing - a little more time consuming than many of my projects, but so worth it!

and last but not least, copics and a colorless blender are another great medium for coloring the stained glass, especially when finished off with all-over embossing for an added glassy look. check out my pinterest board for these ideas and more...

celebrating the past, present and future: 2012

papertrey ink's five year anniversary in 2012 marks the year I began as a stamp designer. after following nichole and papertrey ink since the beginning, this was such an exciting new venture for me. an offshoot of my graphic design biz confetti by lexi, directly related to stamping?! and so pieces of confetti was born. comfort food was a last minute whim when I was submitting my ideas, but easily became my favorite of the year - and longer, when I added comfort food additions a few months later to expand the versatility of the set.

i love manipulating images, using them in different ways than i originally intended, and one of my favorite such tricks is opening up the ice cream pint in comfort food. it's easy to do with really fun results. simply layer a stamped die cut with the lid cut off over a plain white die cut, trimmed to finish off the open edge. for added interest, i die cut two spoons from luxe silver cardstock and stuck them in between the layers - ice cream for two! in this case, maybe a girlfriend dish sess to let it all out. ice cream is the cure!

here's an ice cream card from the original release. clearly, i love a good chocolate/strawberry color scheme!

and how about neopolitan? this one is from round two when comfort food additions was released - chocolate, strawberry and vanilla!

while i focused on the ice cream for today's card, the soup can has probably appeared here even more - these soup can telephones were a release original!

after doing several classic cans the first go round, i was stuck on warhol colors the second time. soup + kleenex - it does a body good!

i even created a clean and simple warhol inspired card - long before the stamp-a-faire version this summer!

celebrating the past, present and future: 2007

i started off as a papertrey ink customer with nichole’s very first stamp set in 2007, staying up late for every reveal, following the design team members, submitting entries for guest star stamper - the works! in fact, my blog is very much tied to papertrey ink, beginning in january 2007, about a month before the release of paper tray and filled with so much of that first year of stamps before i spent time on a couple of other design teams. so I definitely wanted to play along during today’s walk down memory lane. 

some of my favorite sets that year were the various labels sets. hershey's nugget labels were one of my first and often projects when i found stamping several years prior. i stamped "it's a girl chocolates" to give to visitors and staff at the hospital when both of my girls were born, and again for most of my friends, chocolates for back to school teacher gifts, various holidays, you name it! i absolutely loved nichole’s new take on the idea, and couldn't wait to add it to my bag of tricks. I was particularly excited about limitless labels and the coordinating year-round possibilities, so with valentine’s day around the corner, i decided to stamp some labels and relive the sweet magic!

i often gave them in bags or set them out in bowls, but i also enjoyed creating custom class valentines for my girls to give to their classmates, so i pulled out my punny valentine, also released in december 2007, and whipped one up. nuts for you valentine - i just love this squirrel! 

and of course i used the cute nugget tins papertrey carries as well. in fact, i paired the two sets together in a tin for a round of "guest star stamper" back in the day and received honorable mention. i also found a halloween blast from the past nugget project using the label stamp from spooky sweets for another 'mention...
