if you didn't have to cook for thanksgiving, you may still have many thanks to offer and what better way to do so than with a quick card? with eating at the center of it all, a muse flatware is perfect for stamping a simple background. i layered it on shimmer green card stock for a little pizzazz, leaving room for my favorite sentiment below. swap out the brown for red, and you'll be ready to give thanks for your christmas eating, too!

i finally got my hands on a pumpkin (thank you stacey!) after forgetting to get an extra before halloween. they disappeared quickly and completely once november hit, and i almost didn't get to use my newly purchased set of metal turkey parts. i'm not one to decorate for christmas until thanksgiving is over, so this was a fun new addition to the fall decor. i hope your thanksgiving is filled to the brim with food and fun--and a little football, too!

today, i have the ticket invite i've been dying to share! the request was for a football ticket invitation for a bar mitzvah party. the tickets were to be included as an insert with the ceremony invites, so they wanted them to be smallish, much like the real thing. two of the boys' parents went to opposing schools, which i believe inspired the theme, so we incorporated the look of those logos into the design, replacing the team names with the boys' names. and since they were each sending out their own invites, we reversed the order for equality and effect. all of the details on this card had me bouncing! it was so much fun to create, and i heard that the boys really loved them. which of course makes me even happier!

my harry potter buddy and resident super fan got all suited up for the big movie this weekend. she really wanted to see the premiere 12:01 show on friday morning, but she'd had a long field trip to the renaissance festival all day thursday and a couple of quizzes on friday, so we had to put it off until the weekend. we both loved it, and can't wait for part two! she has fond memories of the midnight release of the last book when she was in kindergarten. hopefully the end of the end will happen in the summer, so we can do the midnight thing one more time...

i can't believe how fast time is flying by--how did it get to be the last friday before thanksgiving?! here's one more flashback to a thanksgiving project from the past. place cards are such a nice touch on the thanksgiving table. i've done a few different versions here and there, but tying a tag to a mini pumpkin has always been a favorite. the printing and stamping is a nice touch, but a handwritten tag would work well too. just a few days left...

i often forget to share my designs that make it into the a muse newsletter for card of the week. this one was featured today, and popped up in my email right when i was thinking of what to post, so i took that as a sign and here we are! this was one of those cards that just kind of came to life on it's own. i referred to it as organically grown in the newsletter, because i was just creating without thinking too much. i started off with a single panel, stamping the leaf down the side in pretty fall colors (the kind i don't see much of down here!), adding the sentiment to the right. it seemed kind of plain, so on a whim, i cut it in strips to see how that would look. a little more of that great woodgrain shows through, giving a very simple card a little more depth. i love it when that happens--maybe i need to think less more often!

last weekend, i printed and ironed another set of bowling t-shirts for the big sister of the 2010 twins. this time, the color scheme was pink and green. as i said then, it's such a great way to make your party group stand out at the lanes--and a fun memory of the party every time they wear it afterwards.

the challenge: an invitation for a mall scavenger hunt party for two girls turning 10. some requests: pink & black, something involving a camera and money. the result: another top personal favorite!
as i do with many invitations, i started with a logo. actually, two in this case--a primary "shop" logo on the bag and a secondary one on the camera. the bag was packed and ready with a camera, money, and even a receipt. the main party information was on the screen on the back of the camera, with additional information and fun touches on the store receipt. information aside, the personalized money was the highlight of the whole ensemble!
while the shopping pieces and parts really make it wow, the camera could actually be a great invitation on its own. with the birthday girls' names and age on the front, and the party info on the back, everything is all on one piece. i'm thinking neighborhood scavenger hunt or some other photography themed party in its next life!
the birthday "store" logo also came in handy when it came time for cake. they wanted something easy to serve in the mall, in a coordinating pink and black. chocolate cupcakes with pink buttercream were the perfect choice! i topped half of them with cookies & cream hard candies, to pull in a little black and white, and the other half with logos that i punched out and attached with toothpicks. totally yummy & nicely matched!

the fleur de lis is scattered all over my blog. the symbol of my city, a perfect emblem for a card. here, i used it for an engagement party, paired with a harlequin patterned background in green & white. he popped the question, she said yes! ain't love grand?

it's another friday in november, and time to revisit yet another fun and timely thanksgiving idea. i've made these little turkey treats as a teacher with my students and as a parent with my girls' classes over the years, as well as with family on thanksgiving day. like so many of my flashback friday features, i originally posted them on thanksgiving day, but this year i'm giving you more lead time--a whole week and half to copy away! a couple of oreos + a whopper + candy corn = the sweetest turkeys around! gobble, gobble!!

yesterday got away from me and today almost did too. it's one of those kinds of weeks. thank goodness it's friday tomorrow. and luckily, i have several projects photographed and ready, so i pulled one out for today. pretty purple polka dots, but a baby photo upstages any design really--can't get much cuter than this adorable baby girl! and i'm not just saying that because she's my niece...

after posting my routines checklists a while back, i received a request for a made-to-order set, with two "personalized" sets of routines. one checklist for the morning, another for night time. i drew a few new images, and then followed the same layout of the original pads, using yellow for morning, blue for night. of course, if they were for a girl, i'd want to throw in a little pink!

how about a ticket of a different kind? the request was for an amusement park invitation for four girls turning 6. an old fashioned idea, fun fonts & colors, and a few simple punches later, and the carnival ticket invite was complete. it ranks right up there with all my favorites--a growing list!!

i can't believe it's november already! i thought i'd start off the month's flashback fridays with a project that i love to do every thanksgiving, activity placemats for the kids' table. i've always made and shared them last minute, so now here they are at the beginning of the month to copy with plenty of time to spare. or i can make them for you! over the years, i've used these saltbox studio stamps, as well as stampin' up! thanksgiving stamps. both are no longer available, but a muse has some great options that are--pilgrim boy, pilgrim girl, and tom turkey, for starters. happy stamping and happy november!

as long as it's football season, i will continue to get requests for football invitations! this one is a revised version of the ones i posted a few weeks ago, actually from parties several years ago. i added a few fun little details this year, like the seat numbers and the bar code, and slightly different wording. i have another one coming up soon, with even more fun touches that i can't wait to share, so i hope you're not tired of seeing it yet!

a great way to personalize a birthday party is to make tshirts for the guests. they'd be great favors, but it's especially fun to have the kids put them on when they arrive if the party is in a public place like a bowling alley. these were designed for twin boys turning 10 last weekend, using classic bowling colors to match their party supplies and a name they gave themselves. i also created a coordinating cake...
since they're twins, my two pin and ball design was perfect since each could have a cake with his own name. the ball (baked in a bowl!) is chocolate cake, the pins, yellow. something for everyone--a 10 twin split!

this is the cake i mentioned last week when halloween posting took over. i always love to work on princess things, so i was really excited to receive the request. i've actually created two versions of this castle when my girls each turned three, very early on in my cake decorating. it was fun to perfect the design now that i have more skills under my belt. from the ice cream cone towers to the fondant flowers, it's all in the details!

in addition to the candy, my favorite leftover of halloween is the pumpkin seeds. despite my failing oven, they toasted to perfection after i coated them with butter and salt. yum! the girls loved them so much that i had to hide a bowl for myself. of course the other result of the carving was fun, too...
carved & candlelit, they welcomed trick or treaters right up to the door! now, to pack it all up and decorate for thanksgiving...
