isn't she cute?! hen and chicks is the soon to be released mini set from the saltbox studio. i can't tell you how much fun i've had with this little set. today, i'm starting with the very first card i created with it, focusing on just mother hen herself. i'll share the chicks and show you a few pairings with older stamps in the next few days. one of the reasons i've had so much fun with this set is that it reminds me of three of my favorite of mignon's baby outfits. i'll have to try to dig out some pictures of them--they pre-date my digital camera, so i actually have to go search for them. but, it will be fun to see how closely i've matched my inspiration pieces from memory alone! the card is pretty straightforward. i stamped the hen on the yellow circle and colored the red and added a little shading to the feet. then i stamped her again twice on white, coloring the beak on one and cutting out the body and beak, and cutting only the wing off the second. then i layered the two pieces over the yellow and bent the wing up a bit for added dimension. so simple, but so fun--and just the right amount of red and yellow that i was going for!
be sure to check the saltbox sampler and design team blogs for more great ideas and come back again tomorrow for another look...
