so mignon crept downstairs earlier and saw the last card and wanted to know why i made a "c" card, but not an "m" one, so this is for her! using the same supplies that were on my desk, i played with color and placement, and this is the outcome. plus it's one more for a*muse*a*palooza challenge 6! i think i like more white space better, but i really want to get better at using patterned paper & mixing patterns.

finally! an embossed card for a*muse*a*palooza challenge 6--heating things up! very quick and simple stamping here--white pigment ink embossed with clear powder on a glassine envelope from the old a muse gift tags & envelopes. i would have liked to use white embossing powder, but i don't have any. i don't emboss much actually, even though my heat gun is always set up and ready. i tend to create quick, no fuss stamping projects. anyway, a scrap of yellow card stock is inside the envelope which is mounted on foam tape on top of the ribbon (leftover from a martha @ michael's belt kit), with the green scrap layered below. i love the color scheme of this ribbon--there was a recent blueprint cover that was all shades of yellow and i've been wanting to create something based on it. this is close, but i'll still get to that one day. i love so many colors and have various favorites for this & that, but yellow has always been a constant fave!

spa colleen finally happened and my little diva had a blast as you can see--manis, pedis, & facials, oh my! plus making scented bath salts & decorating flip flops--1/2 price from the target dollar spot! colleen didn't want the strawberry shortcake on them, so i covered them up with the spa colleen stickers and voila, spa flip flops! i'm exhausted, but i must go "heat things up" for the a*muse*a*palooza challenge 6!

we went out of town for the day yesterday and had to visit the girls' day camp today and get ready for the rescheduled birthday--busy, busy, busy! i thought i'd share another digiscrap design since i didn't have time to stamp anything new. this was another design from last summer, using a mix of various freebie elements and papers that drew me in. i was also learning how to use photoshop tools to do things like resizing, layer placement, drop shadows, etc. and it was fun to scrap a little about myself too...

i needed pink card stock for one of the projects i was working on today, so we took a trip to our local scrapbook store, scrapbooks, etc. i let the girls choose one pen and one sheet of paper each--keeps 'em away from mine for a couple of days! mignon chose a yellow marker and a sheet of shiny gold mirror-like card stock plus i got them a piece of pink velvet paper to share and she created this as soon as we got home. i think she based it on the memory of this one, though she didn't have it in front of her. she was very specific about using that hello stamp, too! krispy kreme is right across from scrapbooks, etc., so we had to have snack there of course--and bring some home! a good field trip all around...

i didn't get to stamp today--in fact, i was barely home! it was all about going to the zoo and playing in the fountain on monkey hill; built, as the story goes, to show kids in new orleans what a hill was and commonly referred to as the highest point in the city.
from there, we made a quick change of bathing suits and raced off to the first sunfish swim meet of the summer. so in honor of that, i thought i'd post two of my very first digiscrap designs from last year.
i have yet to really get into this craft and certainly don't create cutting edge layouts--remember, these are two of my first! but i do love being able to create using only my computer, resizing and shaping my digital pictures without the waste of printing, cropping, etc. it's also easy to make a slide show of layouts or print multiple copies of the same design. this was particularly useful when i created an 8 x 8 scrapbook for one of mignon's friends who moved away and also printed a copy for us keep as well. i'd love to get more into this type of scrapping, but cards and invitations always come first!

over the weekend, i posted two cards using my cloud background--shopping scene & pool scene. stamping is my first love, but i also enjoy designing on my computer. sometimes i create something for an invitation that i then use in my paper crafting, like this cloud design. i thought i'd share it today along with some projects i've created using it.
i originally created it for this invitation to a shrek party. i created the clouds out of various circles and ovals grouped together. it takes a little playing, but once you make a few, you can copy, paste & resize them to create new clouds. i also drew the road and the limo. i use a lot of basic shapes in my computer drawings and tweak or morph them to create what i need. the peeking shrek heads are actually a filled in letter o from a shrek font.
it occurred to me that the clouds were a perfect match for a cake mignon wanted me to make for her first communion, so i softened the color, moved some clouds around and a coordinating invitation was born--you can see the invitation (and cake!) here. i like things to match, so i also used it to wrap her gift...
and made a matching card!
and because i tend to use things again if i leave them out, the clouds became inspiration for another invitation. for mignon's communion (linked above), i printed the words on another layer to go over the clouds. here, like the shrek invite, i printed the words with and right over the clouds. but instead of designing this one completely on the computer, i left room in the design for a little stamping and paper crafting--the best of both worlds!
to my invitation customers, if you like the clouds and want to see them on your invitation, just let me know! to my fellow stampers, if you like it and it works to copy and print the jpg (???), feel free and let me know what you create. better yet, if you have a program with drawing tools, give it a try!

a friend of mine found these little packs of summer charms for cheap on a shopping trip recently and thought of me--thanks michele! i was about to create with pmsabella, but there they were in front of me, so beachabella won out and this design just kind of took off. yellow, orange and blue from the charm became my main colors and there's nothing better than real sandpaper for a sandy beach card! my first idea for background paper was an orange one in my stash, but i found this one and thought it had nice touches of all three colors and reminded me of sunset at the beach. a happy beach card for a grey rainy day. maybe i'll get to pmsabella tomorrow!

one more for a*muse*a*palooza challenge 5--seeing scenes. i'm running out of stamps to make a scene with! similar to my rock star poster card, i drew spotlights and used post-its to mask and ink the lights. for this card, i went for colorful lights like you might see during a concert. a lot of stampers probably use sponges to add color like this and sometimes i do too, but usually these are my tools of choice...
i bought them in this set of six at a small stamp convention that came here a couple of years ago. the recommendation was to use each one for a color group and just brush off the excess after each use--which is how they got their colorful tips. they look pretty cool sitting out on my desk, too!

another one for the a*muse*a*palooza challenge 5--seeing scenes... it's summertime at the pool & even tiny bird likes to go for a swim on a hot sunny day!
the blue cloud paper in the background of this card and the last is a background paper i created and printed myself. it's pretty easy to do in any program with drawing tools. create a square/rectangle of the desired size in pale blue and create clouds with a series of overlapping circles in white. once the circles become clouds, you can group them together and move them around, copy and paste them, resize them, etc. i created this one for an invitation i designed on my computer recently and have used it for several projects since. my computer is really just another tool for card making!

"stamp store coming soon!" inspired by the shop stamps & the recent a muse sneak-a-peek, this shopping scene would be a happy day indeed! i used the boutique stamp to selectively ink and stamp a vacant shop and got the renovating started with a little of my own handy work--lettering, ladder, poster in the window. this idea has been floating around in my head (and on my desk) since the a*muse*a*palooza challenge 5--seeing scenes went up, but this week was so busy with end of school, birthday preps, sick child, canceled party, more birthday preps, etc. i even missed out on a couple of sales i planned to attend and other fun blog posts out there. the up side is that summer is officially here! ok, back to the stamp table to make another scene or two by the end of the day...

here's yet another monogram note design, this time a 5.5 x 4.25 flat card. i just love this simple combo of the celery open circle line and the pink monogram (or tiny bird!) and as i was stamping more gift sets of the monogram minis, this larger design popped into my brain. i needed a quick gift card, so i used a sticker and stamped it to coordinate with the cards, since they were packaged in a clear cello bag. i also did one with a three letter monogram which came out great too, but forgot photograph it.
mignon finished school today and now both girls are out for summer! colleen's gotten so much blog time this week, so i figured i'd better post a picture of mignon, too, just to remind you that colleen does have a big sister! she tends to pose with friends most of the time, so i can't post those, but here's a solo one from her class party last friday. she's quite the fish...
