here's another ribboned card for a*muse*a*palooza challenge 9--ribbon fun! i often pick up the ribbon at michael's in twos when they have buy two for a special price. these were two that jumped out at me on one of those visits--i just love this color combo. for the layout, i tied the ribbon on first (you can always slide it off if you need to!) and then looked at my stamps to figure out what else to do--kind of backwards i guess, but it worked itself out!

today i decided to share a few pictures of what i create to celebrate. these were from mignon's birthday luau two years ago, which still ranks as one of my favorites! actually my parties are like my kids--can't pick a true fave!
anyway, why share this today? well, it's kind of connected to my fun news and if you read craft critique, you might have already know, otherwise click here! i'm so excited about this new opportunity to share my opinions about crafting--and to work with such a great team of reporters. i can't wait for my first assignment! but first, there's an assignment for you over there, a contest! submit pictures of how you craft your celebrations and you could win a big box o' goodies. so, what do you create to celebrate? i can't wait to see!

here's another ribbon card for the a*muse*a*palooza challenge 9 and i finally used some of the ribbon and a felt flower from my nyc goodies. those flowers have been sitting there, begging to be used--and i've been afraid to stick them on anything! it's a very simple card--almost too simple, but it just seemed like adding anything else took away from what i already had. besides, i do love simple!

here's the salvaged pink sofa from my smudged original lazy day card last week. pink and black were calling my name, so that's where i took it! i also wanted to use ribbon and submit it for a*muse*a*palooza challenge 9--ribbon fun! originally i was looking for a mix of black and white ribbons to tie together, but i kept coming back to this zebra print paper curling ribbon--a scrap from my wrapping stash. i like the contrast and layering of the two patterns. plus the zebra print, along with the shimmery pink chalked sofa and the fuzzy pink flocked pillows, give the "room" a rockin' edge!
i'm still dealing with computer issues. most of my data was retrieved and put back on an erased hard drive. but i'm having trouble reinstalling my software and my awesome font collection is missing at the moment. so please be patient with me as i straddle two computers to get things done. i have an external hard drive on the way for future problems, but i can't wait 'til this one is all worked out!

i helped host a baby shower yesterday, and as you can see (surprise, surprise!), i was responsible for the invitation and cake. the cake is a larger take on the yellow one i did last month. i added a row of dots and adjusted the design to fill the additional surface space and made the buggy a little more girly with the scalloped edge. the camera picked up every crease and bump, but it didn't look so evident in person--i spent so much time trying to get a perfectly smooth surface, but it's never as smooth as i want it to be! and since i designed the invitation, i couldn't resist adding a set of matching note cards to my gift...
i had planned on cutting and mounting the baby face on a scalloped pink square, but my laptop decided to stop working and cut in to my creating time. it also has all of my most important files on it, which are hopefully being safely extracted and saved elsewhere as i type on the much older, now my kids' desktop. keep your fingers crossed that most of my files make it...

today is national pink day--and how better to celebrate than with a pink card for the a*muse*a*palooza challenge 8--silly celebrations and the monochromatic color challenge at cps?! even though holiday insights couldn't find any documentation confirming this holiday, they listed it anyway and, being a lover of all things pink, i agree that it's worthy of celebration. so, go for it! wear pink, eat pink, drink pink...

text boxed by papertrey ink arrived on my door step on monday and i have an idea i've been working on in between the cards i've created with my new york toys. it's not working quite like i want it to, but i can't give up yet! so, i tabled it in order to create this one--i needed instant gratification and this fit the bill. plus it works for the monochromatic color challenge at cps. i like how nichole created smaller images to fit in or layer over the main boxed images. here, i used my glue pad to add smaller, glittered stars inside the large open stars as well as in the ones i cut from extra (mis)stamped boxes. it has a nice sparkle in person...
go find a star & make a wish!

you'll get a stupid answer! but on september 28, you'll just...
i hand lettered again for this, but it doesn't look as good as yesterday's effort. i was just too lazy to snap letters together or print and cut! plus i wanted the front to look like a quick note. in general, my handwriting is just okay, but when i use it on finished work, i always practice on my grid pad a lot and usually write in pencil first, then erase when it's dry. i look at it more as doodling or drawing than just writing--and sometimes it actually works!
what will i celebrate next?

one more new a muse stamp + an a muse note card = another silly celebrations card for a*muse*a*palooza challenge 8! and now, i'm ready for lazy day, august 10! very simple stamping & coloring with a little paper piecing for the pillows. i smudged the lamp on my first attempt, but salvaged the card back & a sofa (which will probably show up on another card!) and decided to use the rest of the front band for the pillows and flower detail. i hate waste, but i do like having scraps of the a muse cards for details. the sentiment is hand lettered, although a "just be" set with words like lazy, happy, silly, etc could be fun!
so, don't forget to mark your calendars--and just be lazy!

two more new stamps! i just love the a muse scooter and phrase. i wasn't sure what to create today, but if i stare at a group of stamps long enough, something usually starts to take shape. here, tiny bird was just begging for a ride! now, if i could think of a silly celebration for this to go with, i could submit it for a*muse*a*palooza challenge 8! any ideas?

it's been "summer" in new orleans for quite some time--too hot, too soon!--but i think the official first day is this week, so happy summer! this card features two more of my new stamps from the ink pad in new york. and lisa johnson posted a sketch challenge today, which i thought was a perfect excuse to stamp another card with my new stamps!

another new stamp, another new york inspired design! the ipod ads were here and there on temporary walls blocking construction work and made me think of the commercial every time i walked by one, so i guess this is also inspired by the commercial, too. it's not perfect and i had trouble with some placement of elements, but i had to stop! mostly, i like it...

well, i couldn't stay awake to stamp this last night, but i found time to work on it today! it's got plenty of glitter in honor of the gleaming glitter challenge, so i'll try to share it over there anyway. i just had to get lady liberty in honor of the trip--and of course, stamp her first! and on an a muse notecard, too!

so i pretty much collapsed last night--not surprising! but, here's another card i worked on and photographed just before i left. back when i made my version of the little lady dress from the ink pad gallery, i stamped the skirt too full at first. i almost threw it away, but then started to think of it as a tinkerbell or fairy skirt and there it sat for a few weeks, until i was able to get back to it. i still had a scrap of the cloud background paper i designed on my desk too, so i thought that was a good backdrop for a winged dress! i have a lot of back-to-life stuff to do today, but i will definitely make time to play with my new york toys, so stay tuned...

here is a quick card i did last week for the a*muse*a*palooza challenge 7--gleaming glitter. i photographed it and had every intention of posting it while i was away, but we were running around so much and i was so excited to post my new goodies that i never got to it. so, here it is--very simple, one color stamping with a glittered cupcake, topped with an a muse micro dot twinkle sticker. i need to unpack, but i'm hoping to create at least one more for the challenge with my new stuff--if not, i'm ready for the next round!

i found a link to a stamp store in greenwich village called the ink pad on the a muse website. of course, i had to go. it's quite small, but it packs a big punch! it was hard to take in all the stamps and i had no agenda other than adding to my a muse collection, so as you can see, i did just that! the women working there were so nice, too. one was wearing the a*muse*a*palooza t-shirt, which just underscored my "mission"! plus i got the giga scalloped square punch that i've been wanting. i have no ink with me here, but i can't wait to test these goodies out on an a muse challenge as soon as i get home! they also had a really cute ruffled bag/purse stamp that i'm kicking myself for not buying too--it's just like the purse i carry and get lots of compliments on--i'll have to call and have it sent to me very soon!
another fun stop was tinsel trading company in midtown. lisa johnson mentioned them on her blog when she was here for the national stationery show. this shop was amazing--like a stamp store, there were so many little things to take in and i was a bit overwhelmed--embellishments, ribbon, buttons, etc, some new, some vintage. i finally zoned in on their felt appliqués which were presented with other embellishments on floor to ceiling shelves in boxes with samples glued to the outside of each box like this...
like the stamp store, i could have spent hours and hours here, but if you remember from yesterday's post, i'm here for my anniversary and, as patient as david is, i just couldn't do that to him. plus, as the very nice lady said, i can shop online any time--although her first suggestion was to come without the husband! so here's what i ended up with...
felt flowers and that cute bird (!), a little ribbon, vintage ladybug buttons--can't wait to use them! so, those were my two crafty stops--i figured two was a doable number for david. i also very much enjoyed walking down 5th avenue, especially sephora, lacoste and saks, and we had a lot of fun in chinatown, too--purse, handbag, pocketbook??? it's crazy!

6.14.97! when we chose the date, we had no idea it was flag day. but so many times during the ten months that followed, i had this conversation: have you set the date? yes, june 14! oh, flag day... who knew? actually lots of people! but for me, it was the first saturday after school ended, so i would be off for the summer, free and clear!
fast forward ten years to today... david's been planning a trip, destination unknown until two days ago, and now, here i am in new york city--fun, fun!!!

when i create a project like yesterday's, that grows with a little trial and error, i end up with a desk full of various pieces and parts--leftovers! instead of filing them away in my scraps & extras boxes, i made a card with yesterday's leftovers. it's pretty sparkly, featuring a very stickled little lady!
