music player + drippy goo =

Nanochromatic nano-chromatic!!!  one of my home page tabs is apple.com and ever since the latest nano ad made its debut, i've been dying to use the martha stewart drippy goo punch with the a muse music player to create this card.  the nanos on the commercial are in a slightly different order than on the apple home screen, which is what i based this card on--just refresh once or twice if you see something else and it should show up.  i love these ads--remember my ipod/itunes inspired cards from last summer?  if not, you can see them here and here.  these are some of my favorite cards and i look forward to each new i-ad as possible inspiration!

caffeinated cake!

Mtdewcan this was a cake i made friday afternoon--another fun challenge!  it was for a farewell party for the same church office that requested the flip flop earlier in the week and another inside joke.  i wasn't sure if i could pull off my vision, but i think it came out pretty good in the end.  i could have done it two dimensional, but i thought rounding it off and doing the top and bottom was too fun to pass up...

Mtdewcantop pop-top and all!  the most time consuming part was cutting the mountain dew letters and i had to improvise a little on the details, but now i think i could tackle any canned drink!

cheers!

husband, wife ... happy life!

Weddingcake here's a cake i made for one of colleen's teachers.  she got married a couple of weeks ago and while she was on her honeymoon, i helped the class write a book of marriage advice for her.  the second graders recommended that the newlyweds cook each other's favorite meals, take lots of trips, get a maid, and always have a kiss goodnight--soo cute!  anyway, she got back on monday, so on friday during snack time we surprised her with a reception to celebrate, including a grand entrance, dancing, tossing the bouquet and garter, cutting the cake, and presenting the book.

Happylifebook the book is almost the same as the wedding wishes book we created for mignon's second grade teacher from two years ago, who is actually colleen's other teacher, and who happens to be expecting twin boys very soon.  i can't wait to see what advice the kids come up with for her!

don't forget to kiss goodnight!

get rollin' ~ craft critique

Numberbirthday see, i do still stamp!  this is a quick little project i did for a craft critique article today.  i used clear stamps on the new memory essentials get rollin' adhesive wheel to create my own unique wheel patterns.  i used numbers from the a muse clear set birthday builder for wheeled wrapping paper and as an accent on the matching card, also featuring the very cute balloon mouse from the saltbox studio.  i love making things that go together!  check out the article for more info...

flip-floppin'

Flipflopcake today, i have another cake, this time for an office birthday today.  yes, it is for a guy named wayne--a big inside joke/birthday prank!  i heard it was well-received by the recipient and enjoyed by the whole office.  again, it was a shape i hadn't been asked to do before and one i hope to be asked to do again--maybe for a girl, next time!

in case you're wondering, i am still a card maker first and always (i miss my daily stamping!!), but i continue to be extremely busy--invitations, cakes, assignments, teaching, and still a long list of new house projects!  in fact, i just started working with the next release from the saltbox studio, so stay tuned for more on that soon...

thanks for visiting!

another saturday, another cake!

Duckiecake a close friend's daughter turned 10 today and she wanted a last minute cake for the family.  she loves rubber ducks and has quite a collection, so what better cake to have than a duckie cake!  it started as a circle and i cut away pieces from the top and side to form the head and back.  the birthday girl was actually here playing with mignon while i was baking and didn't know it was for her.  but as soon as i cut the shape, it wasn't hard for them to figure out!  this is definitely one i hope someone asks me to make again.  i've even done an invitation before that matches perfectly.

happy birthday marcy!

two more...

Hulaskirtinvite
Bowlinvite a quick post for today!  since i'm trying to make it through the pile on my desk, i have two more recent invitations.  both are variations of invites i had done before, changed slightly for the new birthdays.  both feature font as a central design element.  i think i've said it before, but i love fonts just about as much as i love stamps!

b is for baby!

Bisforbaby this weekend was stamp club saturday, and after months of not being able to go because of the house or other busy-ness, i managed to sneak by for a little while.  i made just a few quick trading cards--an easy design, so i could make more there if i needed them. but it was a small group and i ended up having just enough!  the theme was to make a letter card, with something stamped for the letter of your choice.  the clear polka dot alpha from a muse is one of my favorite alphabets--both sizes!--so i started with that.  i think "b is for baby" is great for a quick baby gift card and baby mouse from the saltbox studio set, mama mouse and more, was the perfect baby to use.  i masked the baby for a little added interest and changed the colors to show how easy it is to change the image from girl to boy.  i do like quick and cute--and options, too!

thirteen

Thirteencake a friend's son turned thirteen today--13 on the 13th!--and she asked for a number cake to mark the occasion.  davis likes plain white icing, so i kept it simple, using the board along with a thin icing border and name to bring in a little color.  i heard that one of the boys at the party said davis was so lucky to have such a cool cake because his mom only gets him boring rectangle ones!!

happy birthday davis!

lots of dots!

Polkadotcupcake here's another recent invitation--lots of polka dots!  i was asked to create this based on the polka dot napkins purchased for the party and i love the bright colors.  while i did not plan the party, we were invited and polka dots ended up being such a great theme.  they were on the birthday girl's outfit, on the cake, and even on the floor--so cute!

forever catching up!

Gymnastinvite this is an invitation that i created for a gymnastics birthday that took place the last weekend of the olympics.  it was definitely perfect timing and fun to create!  i also did a matching fill in the blank thank you...

Gymnastthanks actually, i think you could get away with an olympic themed gymnastics party for a while.  it was great to watch and always leaves such a good impression on kids.  colleen has suddenly decided that she wants to start taking gymnastics and plans to make it to the olympics one day!

i have a stack of invites and cards to photograph and post over the next few days.  the last month has been crazy for getting things done.  it's gone kind of like this:  pick up mignon from camp, start school, evacuate for a week, go back to school, worry about evacuating again.  i'm really sorry ike is headed to texas, but i am relieved that we didn't have to pack up and go again so soon...

'nite!

home tweet home!

Ldtweetbanner we had our annual labor day beach trip with david's high school buddies this past weekend--remember the pirate ship?  perfect timing for an "evacu-cation" as many like to call it!  luckily, panama city beach was just outside the cone of gustav's probable landfall and we went as planned, securing the house and packing a little extra, plus those evacuation musts.  the weekend stretched into a week, but entergy finally got us back on the grid and we came home last night.  lots of big branches in the yard, a cute little tree uprooted, a blown fuse, and food to toss, but we were really very lucky!  the beach was nice and the girls loved the unexpected long vacay, but i'm so glad to be home tweet home!
