this is the no. 1 breakfast request around here, especially when mignon and colleen have friends over. on sleepover mornings, even if i don't feel like making pancakes, i must--it's expected! the girls and each guest get to pick their color and whether or not they want chocolate chips in them. (believe it or not, there are a couple of regulars who *don't* want the chocolate!) as you can tell by the four colors here, each girly had a guest last night, so they had quite the colorful breakfast. i also do this for holidays--orange with chocolate chip jack o'lantern faces for halloween; red and green for christmas; purple, green & gold for mardi gras, etc! i have a big collection of wilton icing colors for my cake decorating that i like to use--vibrant colors, no mixing--but regular old food coloring works great too. it's really easy to do and the kids love it! another fun colorful kid breakfast is painted toast. i'll have to share that one day, too!

How great! My kids would love that...I can't believe I've never thought to color pancakes!

Wow - those are colorful. I'm not sure I could eat blue pancakes, or orange for that matter. I'll bet my kids would though. Especially with Chocolate Chips. You are such a cool mom!!
As kids, my sister and I would sneak food coloring into the milk bag (in Canada, we bought milk in bags!) It was always fun to see the look on my dad's face when he poured out a tall glass of green milk - especially when it wasn't St. Patrick's day.

Fun!!! I just finished serving my girls boring eggs and toast ;) but they'll get orange pancakes on Halloween for sure. Thanks for the fun idea, they will love it!

I do this for my 4 year old girl too! She loves to pick the color of pancakes or waffles. I want to do a morning with Green Eggs and Ham, but have not done that yet. I love the rainbow idea -- that will be good when my 18 month old is old enough to request a color --- I have a feeling they will both want different colors! :)
